For those of you don’t know, an Administrative Consultant or “AC” is an independent administrative that works in collaboration with the company or individual that requires that service.

An Administrative Consultant however must not be confused with a temp or an employee as all tasks are carried out from the AC’s own office and not from the client’s installations. AC’s are self-employed and therefore pays all their own expenses and taxes so the client needn’t worry about social security expenses, holiday pay or maternity leave as the Ac would be responsible for these costs.

You may ask how you would communicate with the Administrative Consultant if he/ she is not situated at your own office. Communication between clients has never been easier. You can make use of the technological means to hand taking into consideration your personal preferences. Whatever means available that allow the job to be completed is preferable be it by telephone, email, fax or even face to face if you live locally.

Services can be booked in various ways, i.e., on an ongoing basis (a certain amount of pre-booked hours a week) or simply as and when needed. The client will only ever pay for the hours the Administrative Consultant has worked on the requested project.

Most businesses can take advantage of the services of an Administrative Consultant. Smaller businesses may require ongoing support with administration, accounting etc whereas larger companies may find it more beneficial to hire a VA to deal with certain tasks or when there is a heavier workload than normal. An AC will be at your disposal according to your needs at any given moment.

Collaboration with an Administrative Consultant also affords the client extra time in which he can focus his attention on more neglected aspects of his business.Once the client is no longer tied down completing admin tasks, he will have more time to think of ways in which to expand his business, improve relations with existing clients, get to know new ones and so much more.

Note: The term Virtual Assistant or VA is also widespread, however, there exists a certain controversy with this term because of the use of the word “Assistant”. Since a VA is a business owner in their own right, it doesn’t seem appropriate to incorporate the term, “assistant” as for some it belittles the work, expertise and overall knowledge of the person within the industry. Personally, I prefer the term “Administrative Consultant” but each to their own.

About Sabrina L. Williams

Although I was born in the UK, I moved to the Canary Islands, Spain at a young age and I haven't looked back. The Canaries is a fantastic place to live, I mean you can do all types of outdoor activities practically all year round because of the great weather. Horses are my poison but the islands are also a superb spot for water sports so they do attract a lot of attention from people around the world. Anyway, enough about that. Back in 2011, I made one of the biggest, scariest yet best decisions I'd ever made and set-up my own business in the middle of a recession. I love what I do as no two days are the same, plus Spanish law keeps me on my toes as it is constantly changing (often without warning!) so there is always something new to learn. As I've branched out in the world of Administrative Consultancy, I decided to create a blog to discuss topics of interest to others in my industry and my clients, share tips and experiences, to see what new ideas people have for improving their businesses and the like so I hope you'll find the time to join me on this venture...
